Brazil Cast goes silent

Due to many circumstances, today is the last day of Brazil Cast broadcasting operations. Many reasons, from absolute lack of time to the increasing costs due to an 50% (minimum) hike on the Brazilian Real x US Dollar exchange rate, passing thru declining listening ratings, got us to this point.

To all listeners, it's been a great ride. On Live365 we met many new friends, learned a lot about broadcasting and - really! - had some of the greatest times of my life online. I would like to thank every single listener that sent us a cheers note, or just gave it a listen during work hours. Without your support, this enterprise would have been long gone.

Best regards,
Adriano Garcia

Today's update

Another update!

Day after day we are catching up with the long list of songs we plan to add to the rotation. At the same time we are deleting the songs listeners least want, according to Live365's stats. Please use the new commenting system to send your suggestions, so we can add new stuff according to the tastes of the majority of listeners.

Stay tuned! More in the works!

A lot more interaction with a little less interaction?

No, it really wasn't meant to sound like the now "over-ubiquitous" remix of an old Elvis song. This has to do with our new process of getting input from you, the listener.

Please note that below each and every one of the posts of this "News" page (this one you are reading now) there's a link for "Comments", where you can rant, rave or simply comment on the things we are doing on the station or discussing here on the Brazil Cast. Of course, you can also suggest new topics and stuff to be put into rotation.

And, for the "less" part, we have just deleted the links to our previously existing (and mostly unused) discussion forums. They were just like old food in the back of the kitchen: left to the flies. So, I thought it would be a better idea to concentrate our future discussions on these comments, rather than using those 'pop-up ridden' forums. They are gone now.

So we are waiting for your feedback. We are definitely here to serve! Send in your comments and song suggestions and we will take a look at them very carefully.

Brazil Cast updated today - version 2

After a while trying to keep up with busy schedules, meetings and work obligations, I could finally take a time out to post some new stuff into rotation.

As Live365 offers the ability for broadcasters to take a look at the least-enjoyed tracks in the playlist, I chose to take them off, making room for new stuff. Already uploaded some tracks, mostly from Elis Regina and other great Brazilian performers and I will take a look at some other newly released stuff to check if they are worth uploading to the station. But more important than that, we are back in business!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all listeners for the enormous amount of support they are sending our way, in the form of encouragement and "thank you" e-mails, and also appointing our humble station as their favorite on their Live365's personal listener profiles.

If you want to do that or just see how it is done, please click here. And if you are a Preferred Member of Live365, please do mark us as your preferred station- if you think we deserve that merit - so we can participate on their new revenue sharing program. All proceeds from that will be reverted to improving station quality, diversity and services. Remember, this is a totally non-profit - just for love - enterprise.

Thank you all and keep listening!

Listener Feedback

Excerpts from the cool e-mail sent by Steve Sacharoff from the USA: "Just found your station.I'm enjoying it very much especially since I just lost 2 Brazilian digitals thru "music choice"{lack of listeners!!!!!}Sorry you've needed to decrease your programming. Keep up your spirits and the good work.If you want to reply you may use English or Portuguese. Best wishes"

Our reply:

"Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for your comments and listening. It's very rare to receive any comments from the listeners, although I know - by looking at the server stats - that we have an audience out there.

The reason behind the decrease in programming was twofold: first, to concentrate on what we do best, that is to offer what we think is great Brazilian music programming; second, to decrease our costs as this is a hobby.

The other two channels were specialized in genres often found elsewhere on the net, so they didn't cater for a larger audience.

Stay tuned to our web site, because soon we will resume our live shows from here!

Feel free to send in your comments any time you want. They are greatly appreciated!"

You, the listener, always have a say here on the Brazil Cast! E-mail us at studio@brazilcast.com.br and send in your praises, your rants, suggestions or simply a "I listen!" note!

Name change already begun

Preparing for the big move on August 1st (read below), today the stations were renamed as follows:

1. "Brazil Cast 3" was renamed to "Brazil Cast";
2. "Brazil Cast 1" was renamed to "Brazil Cast Rock" and
3. "Brazil Cast 2" was renamed to "Brazil Cast OldTime".

Both "Brazil Cast Rock" and "Brazil Cast OldTime" will be available to the general audience until around August 1st 2002, when they will be exclusive to Live365 Ad-Free Listeners. No updates will be done anymore on these 2 stations.

"Brazil Cast" (formerly "Brazil Cast 3") will be updated as usual.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Major changes on Brazil Cast

On June 20th, 2002, the US Library of Congress has set a royalty fee for the use of music extended for all webcasters whose broadcast servers are based on the United States. Although we broadcast live from Brazil, our streams are also affected. Because of this new expense, which is intended to be passed on to artists (we shall see!), Live365.com (our streaming provider) will be adding a small fee to each stream it carries.

In light of this announcement:

1) On August 1st, 2002, Brazil Cast 1 and 2 will cease to exist. NOTE: BRAZIL CAST 3 WILL STAY OPEN!! Because of the new fee, the current exchange rate between the Brazilian Real and the US Dollar and because of the recent ratings these stations have been getting, they will no longer be available as we deem they are not useful for a broader audience.

2) Beginning July 1st 2002, ALL live programming will take place on Brazil Cast 3, which will be renamed simply to Brazil Cast. To reach a bigger audience, all live programs will be streamed at 33k bitrate, to enable modem users to take full advantage of the shows. Our 24h a day recorded rotation will remain at 56k broadband (sorry modem users) because it seems that a big part of the audience already has it.

3) Brazil Cast 3 (to be known as simply Brazil Cast) programming will remain the same! Focused primarily on Brazilian Easy Listening. The live shows won't always follow this genre, though, so we can enjoy ourselves and broaden our music experiences.

We remain comitted to Internet Radio Broadcasting for the long haul and took these measures to streamline our expenses (after all this is a hobby!) and to follow the audience guidance. We are always open to your comments!

Best regards,
Adriano Garcia

Updates to the site being kind of delayed

I hope you don't mind the long time it is taking form me to update this website with new info. The reason, as expected, is an EXTREMELY busy work schedule, and, with the lack of time, I chose to update the stations with new songs instead of simply writing an "I'm here" post of some sort. But you can always listen to BC1 and 3 to check and it will always contain new stuff, with (at least) a weekly update.

Thanks for your support and the new (and higher) ratings we've been getting. And we welcome, as always, your suggestions!
